Independent and Dependent clauses

Kia ora everybody!

For writing, we have been learning about Independent and Dependent clauses. Independent clauses are sentences that can stand alone because it makes sense. Dependent clauses are the opposite of independent clauses, they can’t stand alone. An example of an independent clause is: ‘I went to the store’. It makes sense and can stand alone. Now, dependent clauses. Dependent clauses usually have subordinating conjunctions at the start of the sentence. Subordinating conjunctions are words that introduce the start of a dependent clause.

Here are some subordinating conjunctions are; While, although, though, if, only if, rather etc Here is an example of a dependent clause with a subordinating conjunction: Although she studied all night, she still failed the test. There always has to be a comma in the middle of the sentence.

My topic work about music!

Hello!

For a couple of days now, Room 9 and 10 have been researching about music. Yesterday, we were talking about music from different cultures. After we all finished talking about different songs from different cultures, we had to make a copy of a document. On that document was a series of questions. One of them was ‘What culture are you researching about’. I chose to research about music from Germany.

Then, I had to browse through Youtube and Google, looking for an appropriate German song. I chose a song called ‘Muss I denn’, a German folk song. Then, I went back to the document and answered the second question. It said ‘Where did the music originate? Is it old or new? How long has it been part of this culture?’. Once I read that question, I started searching for answers. I answered the question by saying that German music has been around since the 12th century.

The next questions were about the instruments and so on.

Appositive Slideshow!

Hello!

For the past 2 weeks, we have been learning about appositives. An appositive is a noun phrase. It describes a noun. When you’re using an appositive in a sentence there must be two commas before and after the appositive. Here is an example of an appositive in a sentence: Albert Einstein, a famous scientist, blew up his lab. The noun phrase in the sentence is ‘a famous scientist’ while the noun is ‘Albert Einstein’. Appositives are supposed to describe the noun, but if it doesn’t, it’s not an appositive. The main purposes of an appositive is to avoid repetition, enhance the description and to provide context.

Once all of us finished learning about appositives, we had to make a copy of a slideshow. There were different activities on each slide. One of the activities was to figure out what the appositive was in the sentence and then we had to highlight it.

Pablo Picasso Amazing Artwork!

Hello!

For the past 2 days, room 9 and 10 have been working on making cubism portraits just like Pablo Picasso. Everyone in the class received a piece of paper. On the piece of paper, there were 30 boxes. In each box, there were weird-looking drawings of eyes, noses and heads. Then, we rolled the dice and whatever number it landed on, we had to draw the facial features that were on the piece of paper. For the first roll, I got number three, so I had to draw the head that was next to the number three. For the second roll, I got the number five and so on.

Once we finished drawing the head and face, we then had to add shapes in the face such as; squares, cubes, circles and different types of other shapes. After that, all of us had to divide the face by drawing lines in different places. Whaea Therese and Whaea Grace talked about primary colors. Those were the colors we were gonna use in our portraits. The primary colors were red, blue and yellow. Everyone had the choice between using paint, dye and pastel. I used pastel.

Here is my portrait! (It isn’t finished!)

Hope you enjoyed reading my work! Thank you.

Duffy Theatre

Hello!

Today, some special guests went to our school to perform for us. Since the performance was at 11 am, we had an early Morning Tea. Once it was 10:50 , my class(es) went to go outside and line up. We went into the gym and sat down on the right side. There were 3 actors there. 2 boys and 1 girl. One of the boys name were Toby. Toby played three of the characters in the story; Dad, Uncle Ben and Grandma Joe. The 2 other actors were playing Duffy and Scruffy. Scruffy is the little sister of Duffy.

Around 15 minutes later into the story, the actors pointed behind us which caused everybody to look behind. A lot of the kids even stood up. There was nothing there and It was super loud. Later on into the story, we found out that uncle Ben was a ‘superhero’. Scruffy, Duffy and Uncle Ben were gonna move to  Sydney, Australia for a ‘special mission’.

When they reached the cave, they asked people in our school to make a new name for the cave. The cave ended up being named ‘The beach’. Grandma Joe was like Cruella de Vil from 101 Dalmations. Once they finished performing, we all clapped and cheered for them. the 3 of them chose 5 different kids to ask 5 different questions. My favourite part in the story when one of the dogs ‘peed’ of Duffy.

Reading work

Hello!

For the last few days, I’ve been doing some reading work with my group that my teacher gave us. First my group and I read a school journal and went to page 25. The title of the story was Too Close to the Wind. Me and my group are currently working on extended conversations. It’s where we explain what we think and everybody has to listen to what the person talking has to say. Once we finished reading a few pages, Whaea Abby showed us what our reading activity was.

We had to make a character description about this one guy in the book. His name was Harold. A character description is where you explain how the character is like. Harold was quite care-free and irresponsible.

Here is my work!

Thank you for reading and have a great day!

Cybersmart- Device care quiz

Kumusta!

Today, we had a cybersmart activity to do. It was a quiz about how to take care of your device. First, we had to watch a video. After we did that, our teachers shared us a link to a google slide. We had to make a copy and put it into our cybersmart folder. For the first slide we had to complete the statements on section A to section B.  After, we finished that slide, we had to complete a series of yes or no questions. If we thought it was ‘yes’ we would delete the ‘no’ box. If we thought it was ‘no’ we would delete the ‘yes’ box and so on.

Eotc Diary

Hello.

For the past 3 days (Thursday, Friday and Monday) we have been doing EOTC. Today, we had to write a diary on google slides about what we did in those three days. For the first day we went to Youthtown, which was really fun. On the second day we went to Jellie park, which was also really fun. Then on the third day, we went to Adrenaline forest. In our EOTC diaries, we had to write what we did on that day, your favourite thing from that day, and something challenging,

Here is my work.

Summer learning Journey – Groove Pizza

Hello!

In cybersmart we have been doing the Summer Learning Journey. I worked on groove pizza. Groove pizza is a music website. You click some buttons on the bottom and it creates a beat. First, we had to watch a 14 minute video of Billie Eilish and Finneas making music. Then we visited the website. I clicked a few buttons until I liked what I made.

Summer Learning Journey – Where’s Wally

Hello!

Today, for cybersmart, we are doing the Summer Learning Journey. I chose to do where’s Wally, but instead of finding Wally, you have to find my pixton character. First, I made a copy of a slideshow. Then I had to take a screen shot of my pixton character and remove the background. After that, I had to go on slide 4 on the slideshow. There were pixton characters on the page. I had to add mine and hide it behind other pixton characters. Here is my work. Can you find my pixton character?
